What can I expect from an initial consultation with Feeney Family Law?

Your first meeting with us is a chance for you to get a general overview of the family law process and how it relates to your circumstances. You can discuss with your solicitor what you want to achieve and they can help you review your options for how to do it. The important thing is that you walk away with a good understanding of your options and possible outcomes.

Whether you just need some one-off advice or long term assistance, our initial consultations will help to equip you to proceed with your family law matter.

Will I have my own lawyer, or will I speak to a different person every time?
Our firm generally operates on a “two-tiered” model, where there are two staff members who are familiar with your file (i.e. a senior solicitor assisted by a junior solicitor, law graduate or paralegal). This means that our clients have two points of contact within the firm so that they can get assistance quickly. This is part of our commitment to be “Responsive”. All work performed by junior staff is supervised, so you can be confident that you are receiving high quality service.
My partner and I have already reached agreement about property settlement and/or children’s matters. Can Feeney Family Law help us to formalise our agreement?
Feeney Family Law is always happy to help formalise agreements that have been reached privately. However, only one of the parties can enter a retainer agreement with our firm, i.e. it isn’t possible for both parties to be clients of Feeney Family Law.
I am not currently living in Australia, can Feeney Family Law still help me?
If your matter relates to Australian family law, we can assist you no matter where you are across the globe. We have a number of clients who live or work internationally and we are pleased to be able to offer a service that accommodates these clients. We utilise telephone, email and Skype to ensure that you can get the family law assistance you need.
Do I need to wait until I am separated from my partner to see a family lawyer?
Many people will come in to see us before they choose to separate. We can help to give you an understanding of what to expect if you decide to separate and we can assist you to form a post-separation plan of action. We are committed to client confidentiality, so if you need to see a lawyer before making the decision to separate you can trust Feeney Family Law to provide advice with discretion.
Does Feeney Family Law take on clients for Legal Aid?
Our firm does not currently take on Legal Aid matters other than as a court-appointed Independent Children’s Lawyer.
